In October of 2019, we sold our home and most of our possessions and bought a truck and an Airstream travel trailer. Since then, we have been “on the road” seeing different places around the USA.
We travel north in the summer and south in the winter, trying to find the best weather of the seasons. Two or three hours of driving is about right for us whenever we move to a new location. When we find a nice place to explore, we stay there up to three weeks at a time.
Our Thousand Trails membership allows us to camp free or at a very low cost. Other memberships also help to minimize our expenses. State parks have also been a great way to save on nightly camping fees, offering us beautiful views in scenic places.
Do we miss having a permanent home? The responsibility of our former home on 5 acres and its upkeep was one of our reasons for selling it. The affordability and low-stress minimalist lifestyle has many benefits. The limited space in our 31 foot travel trailer makes every purchase a question of “Were do we put this?” We’re okay with that. We’ve learned that “life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” (Luke 12:15)
Getting to see our kids and grandkids has been a wonderful benefit of having a home on wheels. Getting to be around them has made longer visits possible.
We don’t have a timeline on how long we will continue our travels. There are so many things to see and do. We like our lifestyle and plan to continue as long as we possibly can.
